Description
During the 22nd stage of the Pieterpad you continue your journey to the south of Limburg. This route takes you through the middle of Limburg from Swalmen to Montfort. Along the way you walk through cozy towns and past historic estates with castles. In short, you can enjoy nature and culture on this route.

The starting point of this route is in Swalmen and from here you set course for Roermond. You will successively pass Castle Hillenraad and Castle Zuidewijk. Hillenraad Castle, just outside Swalmen, is one of the most beautiful castles in all of Limburg with a moat surrounding it. The castle is richly decorated and therefore the structure looks more like a charming country house than a resilient castle. Kasteel Zuidewijk is a monumental castle farm in Boukoul. The castle consists of a mansion with a farm and several other buildings. Admire these historic structures and then continue walking along the edge of Roermond.
On to Montfort
Via Melick and Sint Odiliënberg you walk to the end point of this route in Montfort. This town is located in the valley of the Vlootbeek between various estates. You will find many beautiful sights here, such as the ruins of Kasteel Montfort.
