West of Emmen, you can enjoy a varied day out in the Drenthe countryside. First, you cycle through the Broeklanden, a meadow bird area in the valley of the Drostendiep. Shortly afterwards, you ride through the wooded De Klencke Estate. The current manor house dates from the eighteenth century. Further on, you cycle through Zweeloo, which served as a source of inspiration for artists such as Vincent van Gogh at the end of the nineteenth century. Here, you will see several beautiful old farmhouses. On the edge of the village stands a small church that originally dates from the thirteenth century. You can dismount at Cafe 't Haantje Eten & Drinken for a pleasant pit stop. After a bite to eat and a drink, the route takes you along the Oranjekanaal. Finally, you cycle through Sleen with its historic village square (Brink).
