The silent Belgian Kempen

Just below Turnhout, you'll cycle through the wonderfully tranquil forests and stream valleys of the Belgian Kempen region. You'll discover beautiful nature reserves and villages like Tielen and Lichtaart.

Grotenhoutbos
The route begins on the Kempen Ridge between Lichtaart and Herentals. You'll cycle through gently rolling hills of fragrant coniferous forests. A little later, the landscape opens up as you enter the Aa river valley. What a sight! Just below Vosselaar, you'll cycle through the Grotenhoutbos, one of the oldest forests in the Antwerp Kempen region. As early as the thirteenth century, the Dukes of Brabant held grand hunting parties here.

High Sleeve
Along the way, there's also plenty of cultural history to discover, such as characteristic old wayside chapels. In the village of Tielen, you'll cycle through Hofdreef, home to the medieval Tielenhof Castle. Be sure to stop by. A little further on, you'll cycle into the provincial domain of De Hoge Mouw. This nature reserve is named after the Hoge Mouw, a 35-meter-high sand drift that was 40 meters tall years ago. At Floreal Camping Kempen, you'll experience the refreshing tranquility of the Kempen region, nestled in the nature of the Purperen Heide. The ideal place to unwind after your hike.
