The border area of the Netherlands and Belgium near Hilvarenbeek consists of an extensive forest area. Green estates, extensive forests and meadows connect seamlessly here. This route takes you through this natural area in North Brabant and across the Belgian border.
At the start of this route you will cycle over the Wellenseind estate. On this estate you will find two streams that meander through the landscape, green stream valleys, cover sand ridges and wooded drifting sands. From 1915, the old agricultural landscape of this estate has been transformed into a beautiful nature reserve. Through this area you set course to Lage Mierde and then to Hilvarenbeek. Then you cycle further across the Belgian border to the Belgian Weelde and Ravels. Around these pictures you will find the regional forests. Until the beginning of the 20th century, this was a gently sloping heathland area with shifting sands and fens. Since then, beautiful deciduous and coniferous forests have been planted.
The Spartel pond
From Ravels you continue cycling in the direction of Lage Mierde. A bit outside Lage Mierde you will find De Spartelvijver, the start and end point of this route. Here you can settle down for a cup of coffee, a drink or a nice lunch. You are probably ready for that after your trip. From here you can also follow route 534916.
