The Loosdrechtse Plassen are popular as a water sports area, but in the vicinity of these ponds you can also enjoy walking. You walk along the Vuntus lake, where you will encounter many water plants and birds. The starting point of this route is on the dike between Vuntus and the Loenderveense Plas. From here you walk over the dike in the direction of Nieuwerhoek. From the dike you have a beautiful view over the water on both sides. After about three kilometers of walking you will pass Fort Spion. Mill Gabriël is located on the edge of the Wijde Blik lake. This mill was built here in 1635 to drain the polder Kortenhoef together with two other mills that have since disappeared. In the second half of the 20th century, the mill was externally restored. Nowadays the mill functions as a house and the mill cannot be visited from the inside.

In 1803, a small closed earthwork was laid to close the Bloklaan, the road from Loosdrecht to Loenen. Fort Spion was built in 1844-1847 not far from the site of the old battery, with a defensible guard house with gun emplacement

The fort served to close off the Kortenhoefse Zuwe with the adjacent canal. Now it has an ecological function.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, really set up as a polder model. A must see!
