Description
This route takes you from Anna Paulowna all the way to Alkmaar and back. The majority of this tour runs through extensive polders and along waters, but you also cycle through nice towns and along the Schoorlse Duinen.
Through the polders and dunes
Anna Paulowna's Oostpolder is the starting point of this route. From here you cycle through Oudsluis, Sint Maartensbrug and Groet to Schoorl. Near Schoorl you cycle along the Schoorlse Duinen, the widest dune area in the north of North Holland. This dune area consists of drifting dunes and old forests. Get some fresh air and then cycle to Alkmaar. This city is known as Cheese City because of its world-famous cheese market, but Alkmaar has much more to offer. In the center of the city you will also find historic buildings, museums, canals and cozy streets with terraces. You can also explore Alkmaar from the water by taking a boat tour.

Between Sint Maartensvlotbrug and Hargen you cycle past two polder mills. The first mill is Zijpe Noorder-M. This mill was built here in 1864 to drain the Zijpe. Later the function of the mill was taken over by an electric pumping station. The second mill you pass is the Groetermolen from 1890. This mill still drains the Groeterpolder today with the help of an electric pumping station.
