Cycling through Droogmakerij De Beemster

With this route you drive a nice tour through De Beemster, a reclaimed land that is on the World Heritage List because of its unique rectilinear layout. As you drive north, you pass characteristic bell-shaped farms and vast grasslands that are veined with ditches. To the left of the cycle path you will see the Nachtegaal, the only flour mill in the Beemster. It was built in 1704. You drive west via Noordbeemster. At junction 29 you exchange the straight roads for a dike along the winding Beemsterringvaart. On the other side of the water you look out over the Eilandspolder, a water-rich low peat area. On the Noordhollandsch Kanaal you cycle past Fort Spijkerboor and the Fort aan de Jisperweg; both forts belong to the Defense Line of Amsterdam. The route ends with a delicious meal at BRASA Beemster.
