It is wonderful to cycle around the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer. In some places you have a beautiful view over the rippling water. Feel free to step off to enjoy the peace and the view. There is also no shortage of cultural history. In West-Graftdijk you can see, among other things, the village church, this building originally dates from 1651. Further on is Oost-Graftdijk. Here is a village church from 1840 with a wooden turret. Behind a completely wooden worker's cottage from 1877 is a unique hayloft. Generations of Graftdijkers earned their living flaying hemp for rope makers. Just before Uitgeest you pass a few polder mills, such as the Woudaap from 1651. The Tweede Broekermolen dates from 1631. Via Castricum you cycle back to Landgoed Duin & Bosch. Here you can enjoy a drink at De Oude Keuken.

This workers' house from 1877 is one of the few completely wooden houses on the former Schermereiland. Jannetje Heertjes was the last occupant of the house. Behind the house is the island's only remaining hating pen, which used to be used to hate hemp.
