Discover the peat polders around Abcoude

Around Abcoude you will find a vast peat landscape full of puddles, ditches, windmills and old villages. Are you looking for peace and space? Then this walk is really something for you.

Historic Baambrugge
From Nigtevecht you can walk straight into the polders. On the right you look out over grassy fields where many cows graze, a beautiful Dutch picture. You cross the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, after which you walk along a leafy and straight path along the rippling water. Get some fresh air and clear your head. In Baambrugge you seem to step back in time, there are so many beautiful old houses here. At the Vinkeveense Plassen you can recharge your batteries at Café-restaurant Bon.

You walk to Abcoude along the river Winkel. You will also find many historic houses here. Via the Wilhelminaburg, a quail (pedestrian bridge) from 1908, you cross the Gein. Around this meandering river you walk along the dike past meadows, pollard willows and elongated plots with old farms. You pass the Oostzijds Molen, dating from 1874, one of Mondrian's beloved paintings. You walk back to Nigtevecht along the canal.
