Small towns between the hills
The starting point in Schimmert lies on an undulating low plain. From here you descend via beautiful footpaths to the lower hilly areas in this area. You walk through the hamlets of Helle and Brand, both of which belong to the so-called Upper hamlets of Nuth near the Platsbeek. In Brand you will find a few houses with half-timbering. For example, on a farm in this hamlet you will find the inscription'Op genne Brant\\'. In the vicinity of these hamlets you will find many sunken roads in the hilly landscape.
The history of Schimmert
Schimmert is one of the highest church villages in the Netherlands. The story goes that the name Schimmert originated when Charlemagne got lost during a hike. In the distance he saw a light shimmering and that is how the name of the village came about. A chapel was then built on the spot of the light.
