Short tour of Reeuwijkse Plassenroute

This route starts at Deli Lounge in Reeuwijk and leads around the Reeuwijkse Plassen near Gouda. Soon you are walking on a leafy path along the Reeuwijkse Plassen. Here you can see old wood quays, reed beds and many birds. The lakes were created in the eighteenth century by peat extraction. In the rectangular shape of the lakes you can see how the former peat soils were parceled out at the time. The peat that was extracted from the ground here centuries ago was used by, among others, Gouda beer brewers and potteries. It is wonderfully quiet on the low-traffic dikes that separate the lakes. On the outskirts of Gouda, you can also enjoy the varied natural beauty in the Goudse Hout city park. How wonderful, so much nature so close to the city!
