Short tour of the Reeuwijk Lakes Route

You'll be walking around the Reeuwijkse Plassen lakes near Gouda. Soon, you'll find yourself on a leafy path along the Reeuwijkse Plassen lakes. Here you'll see old wooden quays, reed banks, and a wealth of birds. The lakes were created in the eighteenth century by peat extraction. Their rectangular shape reflects how the former peatlands were parceled out at the time. The peat extracted here centuries ago was used by Gouda's brewers and potters, among others. The car-free dikes separating the lakes offer a wonderfully peaceful setting. On the outskirts of Gouda, you can also enjoy the diverse natural beauty in the Goudse Hout city park.
