The Maasduinen National Park is a special nature reserve in the top of Limburg. Get to know the heaths, shifting sand areas and forests on the east side of the Maas with this walk through the Maasduinen. Along the way you can relax with all that greenery around you.

Drifting sand, moors and forests
This entire route takes you through De Maasduinen. You will find river dunes here that are covered with forests. This vegetation was planted to keep the shifting sand plains in check in this area. The drifting sand threatened to affect the surrounding fields and meadows. This created an elongated nature reserve with a varied and sloping landscape. This route takes you along moors, through wooded areas and along some fens. This way you can see with your own eyes how varied this nature reserve is.

Estate Bleijenbeek
The start and end point of the walk is at Landgoed Bleijenbeek. Here you can drink a nice cup of coffee before you start your tour, but of course you can also relax with a snack and a drink if you have already finished the walk. Relaxing is in any case no problem here. From here you can also follow cycling routes 117579 and 530079 to explore the wider area.

Lost castles in Bleijenbeek
A stone's throw from Bleijenbeek you will find the church village of Afferden. This village is located on the right bank of the Meuse and the foundations for this village were laid with the construction of Afferden Castle at the beginning of the 14th century. Today there is hardly anything left of this castle. You will also find the ruins of Bleijenbeek Castle in Afferden.
