Cycling through the Meinweg National Park

The Meinweg
You cycle through the contiguous forests of the Melickerheide, the Luzenkamp and the Zandbergen to De Meinweg National Park. This beautiful nature reserve is known for its unique terraced landscape. These terraces were created over tens of thousands of years by the erosion of the Meuse and three fault lines in the earth's crust. Here you cycle through dense forests, stream valleys and heathland. It is exceptionally quiet here, especially on a weekday.

Pleasant Roerdalen
After the Meinweg you leave the Netherlands behind you for a while, but not those beautiful forests and stream valleys. You drive into Roerdalen, the area around the Roer where the landscape gently undulates. There is still a friendly atmosphere in the villages and hamlets. On the edge of Linne is the sixteenth-century St. Martin's Church. Here you look out over the Linnerweerd, one of the few natural floodplains of the Maas. After your route, enjoy a drink and snack with a view of the Maas at Maasterras Kanters.

Vlodrop Station
Vlodrop-Station is a hamlet that was once located on the Iron Rhine, the former railway between Antwerp and Mönchengladbach. Until February 2015, you could see the famous College Sint Ludwig at junction 95. Originally this was a Franciscan monastery and boarding school. In 1990, guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi from India moved into the complex. After years of vacancy, the monastery was finally demolished. From Maasterras Kanters you can also cycle route 115062, which takes you past the Maasplassen and through the Leudal.
