Your cycling route starts at Hotel Mercure Zwolle. The first part of the route takes you over the dike along the Overijsselse Vecht. Further on, this river merges with the Zwarte Water. On the left is the river with its creeks and eddies, on the right are the polders that form a landscape. It is a flat, wide and sleek landscape with elongated parallel plots. Just along the Vecht you will pass Huize Den Doorn, a country house dating from the seventeenth century. Get off at junction 8 at De Stokte, a lookout tower of about 20 meters high for a beautiful view over the Vechtdal. In Dalfsen you can still see many old sights, such as the country houses Leemcule and Rutenberg. Back in Zwolle you can also fully enjoy the history.

Huize Den Doorn
Huize Den Doorn is a country house near the city of Zwolle. The house is located in a quiet area between Genne and Haerst, near the river Overijsselse Vecht. The house used to be a manor. Originally this was the name for a large farm with land and you had to be in possession of a manor to become a member of a knighthood. It is therefore not surprising that many manors could be found in the Netherlands in the past. At the end of the 19th century, part of this house was demolished and renovated. It was then that the building took on the shape it still has today. The other buildings that used to be on this estate have all disappeared. Only the farm built next to the house in the 19th century is still there. The house was restored on a large scale between 1955 and 1967.
