From the picturesque Abcoude you can drive straight into the former peat area. Here you will find characteristic vistas, historic old places and a striking amount of silence. That will be enjoyable per running bicycle meter.
Along the Gein
Immediately after boarding, you drive along the meandering Gein through a landscape of green meadows with grazing cows, dikes lined with pollard willows and elongated plots with old farms. You pass the Oostzijde Windmill, dating from 1874, one of Mondrian's beloved painting objects. You can also see the old Liniedijk that belongs to the nearby Fort at Nigtevecht. You make a short trip to Noord-Holland when you cross the beautiful monumental fortified city of Weesp.
Picturesque Vecht region
You drive towards Vreeland via the course of the Utrechtse Vecht. You enjoy reeds and tranquility here. And of course the rippling water, the old mills and the many monumental farms and mansions. On the other side of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal you also drive through some historic village centers. You can see here, among other things, the thirteenth-century Castle Loenersloot. At Boutique Hotel Restaurant De Witte Dame in Abcoude you are welcome for a drink, meal and comfortable overnight stay.
The route takes you through Weesp, Nederhorst Den Berg, Vreeland, Loenersloot, Baambrugge and Abcoude. All towns that are rich in historic buildings. And that within a relatively small area. So be careful when cycling that you do not enter the water, while you are admiring a beautiful building again. Like in Abcoude. You will see plenty of monuments here, such as the fifteenth-century Gothic village church. The Wilhelmina bridge across the Gein is also beautiful. This kwakel (pedestrian bridge) dates from 1908.
