From Winsum to the Wadden

This route takes you through the Groningen Hogeland. You drive through a vast landscape dotted with beautiful historic villages. You can breathe in that wonderfully salty air at the Wadden Sea. You cycle through a landscape of grasslands, crooked ditches and winding dikes. There are many sights along your route. You can get a breath of fresh air on the Wadden coast. Back at Marenland Recreatie, you can enjoy a snack and drink in peace and quiet on the renovated cozy terrace. Pieterburen is best known for the seal sanctuary. If you drive through the village, you will see some beautiful buildings, such as the Peter's Church from the first half of the fifteenth century. De Vier Winden is a grist and peeling mill from 1846. In the countryside you pass the Bolt farm, whose front house dates from 1801. A little further on is Themaheerdt, a farm with art-deco motifs from 1925.
