Fort Route Lek: Culemborg and Vianen

Your route starts at Huis Het Bosch. You can make wonderfully relaxed bike rides along the Lek. You will find beautiful nature, historic towns such as Vianen and Culemborg and forts from the New Dutch Waterline. The route takes you over winding dikes and polder roads. You have beautiful views over orchards and over the meandering Lek, which forms the border between Utrecht and Gelderland here. Fort Everdingen dates from 1847 and its function was to hermetically seal off the high passage of the Lek dikes and the floodplains. Werk aan de Groeneweg is located on the other side of the Lek, this fort was built at the beginning of the First World War. Along the Lek you cycle through several special nature reserves, such as the Panoven nature reserve. Enjoy the greenery!
