Tour of Schuitwater and De Hamert

Your route starts at the Arcense Herberg. After crossing the Maas by ferry, you cycle from Lottum into the Schuitwater. This varied nature reserve extends around several silted-up Maas arms. From the eighteenth century, peat was dredged in the Schuitwater. This fuel was transported with flat barges; the area takes its name from these vessels. Here you will find a unique mosaic of moist alder swamp forests, marsh vegetation and dry coniferous forests and heathlands. Ooijen Castle in Broekhuizen dates from the Middle Ages. Then you cycle through the't Sohr nature reserve. In Broekhuizen you cross the Maas by ferry. Landgoed de Hamert is located between Wellerlooi and Arcen. You will see heathlands, fens, raised bogs and fields. The estate is part of the Maasduinen National Park.
