Description

The eight summer cycle routes are over, right? Actually yes, but Truus couldn't get enough of them. And neither could we. So let's go, once more on the pedals, into the lanes!

She still posts something online now and then, that Truus. A beautiful evening sky in De Lutte, for example. Or purple-colored heathland on the Sallandse Heuvelrug. But the videos she makes during a walk or bike ride are watched above average. Recently, over 2300 people saw her trip on the Brandsweg in her own'backyard\\\'. And that path just happened to be included in today's route.

Saving the best for last, that's not what she does. Almost immediately after starting at hotel 't Kruisselt you have already experienced this piece of Twente heritage. A beautiful path with an equally beautiful bridge at the spot where it gets nice and swampy, after which the Egheria estate unfolds. The good feeling is there again immediately; this is going to be enjoyable.

After a short stretch of Egheria, the hills of the Paaschberg and the Hakenberg follow, where one farm is neatly raked and the other is in a dilapidated state. Both have their charm.

Lutte Hutte or Eierhutte?

Beautiful benches and picnic areas in abundance on this route, but for a fresh cup of coffee or tea you can easily go to a Hutte. Or Hutte.'t It just depends on which side of the border you are on. On the Lutterzand you will find the Lutte Hutte, just a little further on the Eierhutte. A resting place that you can say U against.

As if it is not about cycling today, between those two rest points you will also find the Sam and Schoonzitje, where Sam and Gijs have created a lovely spot together with Grandpa Jan. Rested enough? Then you should be able to climb the lookout tower of De Oelemars. In return, you have a view far into Twente and over Germany.

Then the 'meandering' along the Dinkel begins, over the beautiful decking of the LAGApad. Dutch and German parties have worked intensively together in recent years to redesign the Dinkel between Gronau and Losser, over a length of four kilometers. The path was recently relocated to give the Dinkel its natural, meandering course back.

Gerardus Majella

Arriving at junction four, Truus gives you the choice to cut off to junction sixteen or take a small detour towards junction fifty-three. If you cut off, you will miss the Gerardus Majellapark in Overdinkel. A shame. Because the park is an attraction in itself. You will find the Gerarduskoepel with the heath hall, the Wunnerskapel, the engekapel, the Kiekschuur with the African wood carvings and the labyrinth according to Chartre with Zenit dome and water source.

As with every route Truus devises for the newspaper, she first cycles it herself. On her journey, she meets another acquaintance from the newspaper on the edge of Oldenzaal, near the Lossersvoetpad. On a bench by the Mariakapel, with his dog next to him, sits Paul Abels. Two people with completely different backgrounds do not need much time to come to the same conclusion:'Twente is beautiful\\\'.

Via the crossroads, with goddess Diana in the background, and via the Scottish highlanders grazing at the Wijnbergen we climb up. Back to the starting point. And then it turns out that'save the best for last\\\' was not invented for nothing. ,,Take a look at the terrace at the back of hotel't Kruisselt. It is so beautiful there\\\", says Truus.

Tip 1: The Egg Hut

At the Eierhutte, just across the German border, you can imagine yourself on holiday. In a small Stube you will find everything you need to catch your breath. Self-service does not stop at a cup of coffee or tea. There are delicious cakes, cheese, soft ice cream, chilled drinks and many more delicacies. You can even use a toilet here.

Tip 2: The Oelemars

\\\

The Oelemars is a large sand extraction pit where sand is still extracted. It largely consists of a 15-metre deep excavated pool. The sand extraction is located in the De Zandbergen-Oelemars area, an agricultural, recreational and nature area between Losser and the German border. The name means 'swamp in which owls live'.

Tip 3: Lagapad

\\\

The Lagapad along the Dinkel, the connecting element between Losser and Gronau. (C) Truus Wijnen

The Lagapad is a very busy path for cyclists and hikers. Over 37 kilometers you cycle along Losser, Glane, Overdinkel, Gronau and De Lutte. It houses local treasures such as Erve Kraesgenberg, the Martinustoren, Dorpsbleek, the Gerardus Majellapark and De Oelemars. The renewed route is available for 2 euros at the Tourist info in De Lutte and Losser.
