Castle route around Delden

Old mills and castles
The starting point of this cycle route is just outside Delden. From here you cycle through the bocage landscape of Twente to Hengelo. Along the way you will pass the Noordmolen, an oil mill that is more than 650 years old. You used to find a corn mill opposite this mill, but it was demolished in 1831. A little further on the route, near the town of Diepenheim, you pass several castles such as; Castle Wegdam and Castle Weldam. Both castles originated from a former manor house and both those manor houses were built in the 14th century. In 1897 Wegdam was sold to the lady of Weldam and since then the castles belong together.
