In Zwartsluis you have a beautiful view of the harbors and the Zwarte Water. To the left of the locks are the Meppelerdiep and the Zedemuden pumping station from 1973. This is the second largest pumping station in the Netherlands, only the one in IJmuiden is larger. You then walk along a paved path along the edge of the Veldiger Buitenlanden, an area outside the dike of vast and wild grasslands where birds such as godwits live. You make a shortcut through the hamlet of De Velde to Zwartewatersklooster. The cemetery is a reminder of the time when a nunnery stood here between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries. You walk through the reclaimed peat area of the Veldiger Binnenlanden to the former Hanseatic city of Hasselt. You walk back along the floodplains of the Zwarte Water to Hotel Restaurant Zwartewater.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
