A tour along the Waal in the Gelderse Poort

In De Gelderse Poort you can experience plenty of water-rich natural beauty for a day. First you drive over the dike to the Millingerwaard, a nature reserve consisting of riparian forests, swamp and water. Further on you will see a similar landscape as you drive through the Greenlands. In Tiengeboden you pass several monumental farms on the dike. You cross the Waal, after which you drive along the floodplains and the rippling water on the other side. At junction 80 you pass Sterreschans, a hamlet that is located on the site of a former fort. You cross the Pannerdens Canal, after which you drive through the Lobberdense Waard. Here, nature development, flood protection, recreation and raw material extraction go hand in hand. The route ends with a delicious artisanal ice cream at IJssalon Clevers Millingen aan de Rijn.
