  • Cycling route 452523
From Oudewater to Cothen. Accommodation tip: B&B Karibu in Cothen.
Open landscape. A large part of the route you cycle along the Lek, beautiful river landscape. Cycled through villages myself. If you prefer the entire stretch over the dike, you can easily adjust the route by cycling all the way over the dike. Along the way past the Beatrix and Irene locks, nice to take a break here and see the locks in operation. Along the way there is also the opportunity to swim in the Lek, landscaped recreation area. In season, eat delicious cherries in Cothen at the Kersenhut. In Wijk bij Duurstede there is a wide choice of restaurants / eateries. Good to cycle back and forth from Cothen.
Note: from point 14 to 18, do not continue to point 18, but turn left immediately at the top of the dike and continue to point 51.

Landwinkel en Schenkerij De Kersenhut is located in the middle of an orchard in the town of Cothen, southeast of Utrecht. You used to find countless orchards here, but not many of them have survived. All the more reason to visit De Kersenhut. Here you can enjoy the delicious fruit fresh from the orchard. Take a look at the country store and buy all kinds of goodies for on the road or for home. Or take a seat in the cafeteria for coffee and something tasty. In the summer you can sit on the terrace, in the winter you can cozy up by the wood stove.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, which have truly been set up as a polder model. A must see!
