Tour of Orvelte and Heuringerveen

Your route starts at Hotel Het Witte Veen, which is named after nearby Witteveen. It is the youngest village in Drenthe: it was founded in 1926 as a job creation project on the Balingerveld. You will find more history in Orvelte, one of the most beautiful villages in the Netherlands. There are still many authentic farms in this almost thousand-year-old village, it is a large open-air museum. It is car-free and that alone gives you the feeling of going back in time. Take some time here to get acquainted with Drenthe's history. You walk back through the Heuringveen, a narrow and elongated nature reserve where you will encounter many native plants such as red clover, lupine and cornflower. Beautiful when it's all in bloom!
