In the Noordoostpolder you cycle through a wonderfully quiet landscape of straight ditches and plots. You also drive through new nature, such as the beautiful Kuinderbos.
New Netherlands
The Noordoostpolder boring? On the contrary, there is plenty to see. For example, many flower bulbs are grown around Creil. For example, at the end of April you will see a beautiful mosaic of blooming tulips here. Marknesse was founded in 1942 from the barracks camp Dorp B. Like the other villages in this region, the name comes from a lost medieval village. From a distance you can see the Polder Tower in Emmeloord, a striking 65-meter high water tower from 1959.
Kuinderbos
The Noordoostpolder was constructed in the 1940s to create new agricultural land. Where the peat soil was not suitable for agriculture, forests developed.
