Description

Your route starts at Ambachtelijke Bakkerij ten Veen. Here you are exactly between the Veluwe and the Utrechtse Heuvelrug - you will explore both today! Castles, estates and stately buildings go hand in hand with nature in a rolling, rural region. You also cycle along the Grebbesluis, in the middle of the woods. Another example stood at this location during the war, which played an important role: water for the inundation was let in here and there was heavy fighting in May 1940. The Ginkelse heath was an airborne landing site during the Second World War. You cycle back via Hoekelum Castle, dating from 1325. The building was completely rebuilt in the eighteenth century, the current appearance was created after a renovation in 1914.
