Description

Your route starts at Taverne't Koetshoes. First you will pass through Oud-Valkenburg. Due to the beautiful surroundings and the historical buildings, this place enjoys a protected village view. From the road you can see, among other things, the sixteenth-century Genhoes Castle. You will also pass a beautiful square farm and a church from the twelfth century. The Gerendal is a dry valley, created by runoff rainwater. It is known for its orchids. At the edge of the hamlet of IJzeren you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Then you walk down through the Sint-Jansbos. Via the Geulpark and Kasteel Oost you walk back to your starting point. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1340, be sure to take a look here! It is built with ochre-coloured marl from the area.
