Would you like to take a lovely walk along the flat banks of the Maas? Then come to Eijsden in Limburg for a nice detour. And feast your eyes, because the old part of Eijsden is rich in historic buildings.

Eijsder Beemden
Above Eijsden you walk through the Eijsder Beemden, a nature reserve under development. Here you see a mosaic of grasslands, ponds, willow forests and an old standard orchard. On the horizon lie the wooded hills. Closer up you will see a varied flora. In the occasionally very swampy grasslands, plants such as real cross thistle and double chalice grow. Caterpillars of the queen's web live on the wild carrot, and during the season you can see this largest butterfly in the Netherlands fluttering here in abundance.

Picturesque Eijsden
The southwestern corner of Eijsden enjoys a protected village view. The streets here originated as side streets of a medieval road. There are many monumental mansions, such as on the old Maaskade and the Diepstraat. At the Vroenhof you will pass the St. Christina Church. The marl tower of this church dates from the fourteenth century. At Heerlijkheid Breust you can enjoy a fresh beer and a delicious meal with a view of the centuries-old St. Martin's Church.

New Netherlands
The route also takes you across the peninsula of L\\\'Illal. From the beginning of 2017, this 15-hectare area will be considered the newest part of the Netherlands. L\\\'Illal is being exchanged for a piece of Dutch territory surrounded by Belgium on the left bank of the Maas. L\\\'Illal is a rugged piece of nature where trees grow and rare plant species can be found. Such as the small and large teasel, eyebright and wild marjoram. You can also spot goldfinches there. And of course the many ships that sail on the Maas in this beautiful area. Would you also like to explore Haspengouw or some regional castles from Heerlijkheid Breust? Then cycle route 147911 and 147910.
