Exploring the Gooi nature

You can take beautiful bike rides through nature around Naarden. This route takes you through the old forests and vast heathlands between Bussum and Blaricum. You will also drive along the shore of the Gooimeer for a while.

Crailo nature bridge
Just below Bussum you cycle through the drifting sands of the French Kampheide. The adjacent Spanderswoud was once a country estate. You will find a mixture of trees, it is wonderful to cycle here through the rustling greenery. You enter the Bussumerheide via the Zanderij Crailo Nature Bridge, which is the largest ecoduct in the world with a length of 800 meters and a width of 50 metres. In the southern part there are still heath fens that were previously used to wash the flocks of sheep.

Het Gooi
At junction 80 you are almost at the highest point in the Gooi: the 36 meter high sand ridge called Table Mountain. Finds in prehistoric burial mounds show that people have been living here since 2500 BC. With Bussum, Laren and Blaricum on your route, you will of course also see some of the stately villas for which the Gooi is so famous.

Fortress Naarden
Naarden is one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe. The fortress has six bastions, a double wall and a double canal belt. In the cozy town itself you can easily experience the historic atmosphere. You will find the St. Vitus Church there: the fifteenth-century tower is the oldest part of this building. The striking Town Hall dates from 1601 and is a fine example of the Dutch Renaissance style. The Libra Museum is located in a medieval building.
