Description

Your route starts at De Hazelaarshof. From here you can walk straight into the beautiful De Millingerwaard nature reserve, where herds of Galloway cattle and Konik horses roam. With a ferry you cross to Doornenburg and M15: Doornenburg castle; one of the largest and best preserved castles in the Netherlands. The medieval outer castle and main castle are connected by a wooden bridge. At the beginning of the 20th century the castle fell into disrepair, but a foundation was established in 1936 to have the impressive castle restored. Doornenburg Castle is one of the best examples of late medieval fortification in the Netherlands and has the largest outer bailey in the Netherlands. You walk back past the Millinger Tea Garden, definitely worth taking a break!
