Walking stage 2: Waalre - Eindhoven | Liberation Route Brabant

Imagine being one of the very first paratroopers to set foot on the terrain around Eindhoven... This 27-kilometre stage takes you along the second part of the route that the liberators followed when they entered Dutch territory. The Liberation Route Brabant not only tells the story of the liberation, but also sheds light on the impact of the Second World War on the ordinary inhabitants of Brabant. The entire route is 125 kilometres long and is divided into five stages. This stage follows the Airborne Hiking Trail, which tells the story of Operation Market Garden. During this operation, roads and bridges had to be captured to bypass the Siegfried Line via Arnhem, so that the Allied army could advance towards Berlin.

The route takes you past historical places, marked by courage, sorrow, fear and hope. Soldiers, residents, refugees and occupiers saw their lives change here. Reflect on what happened during the war in North Brabant and in these places in particular.
