Gateway to the Liberation Cycle Route | Liberation Route Brabant

This 47-kilometer cycling route takes you through the area around Bergeijk, where British scouts were the first to arrive on Dutch soil. In the run-up to Operation Market Garden, these scouts nearly managed to reach the River Dommel. Countless stories of courage and struggle can be found in the Kempen region. The early arrival of the British brought hope, but there were still many challenges to overcome before liberation became a reality. The locations of downed aircraft and the stories of the difficult passage of British tanks bear witness to this turbulent period.

The Liberation Route Brabant tells the story of the liberation, but also shows what the Second World War meant for ordinary people in Brabant. Eight cycling routes, spread across North Brabant, lead you past Brabant Herinnert stories, audio pillars of the Liberation Route Europe, monuments, and museums, which together make the impact of the war on North Brabant visible.
