Tour of Hoensbroek Castle and Valkenburg

Your route starts at Grand Carré Naeve de Paort. First you dive into Valkenburg. Nice to get off and enjoy the atmosphere! Near Spaubeek you will see a large farm that was once part of Sint Jansgeleen Castle. Further on you will pass Terborgh Castle, a nice place to poke around. You continue cycling through the beautiful Geleenbeek valley. On the way back you will discover the highlight of the route (and the wider region): Hoensbroek Castle, one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. And one of the most beautiful! There was a motte on this site as early as around 1225. Due to its strategic location on the trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne, this original castle developed into the largest castle between the Maas and the Rhine.
