Tour of Zelhem and Doetinchem

Your cycle route starts at De Zellerij Eten & Drinken. You cycle through the wooded area to Zelhem. At the Market you can admire the beautiful Lamberti church. You cycle past Saxon farms to Doetinchem. Doetinchem was already mentioned in 838 as Duetinghem, a settlement with a church. It is now the largest city in the region. The last part of the route takes you along the Oude IJssel. This watercourse originates in Germany and was once a tributary of the Rhine. It now flows into the IJssel at Doesburg. The Dutch iron industry emerged along the Oude IJssel at the end of the seventeenth century. Iron ore was extracted a few metres underground and used as a raw material in local iron foundries. You cycle back via Landgoed de Driesprong.
