City walk Oldenzaal and estates

Your route starts at Stadshotel Ter Stege in the beautiful center of Oldenzaal. In and on the edge of the city you will pass villas and estates of the former textile barons. Most country estates were built in the early twentieth century, when the textile industry was at its peak. Real gems to view, such as Villa de Haer from 1881. The Kalheupink Park is located on a hill, the southern sister of the Tankenberg. The park was originally a garden, around 1869. In 1913 it was laid out in the English style by landscape architect Leonard A. Springer. The St. Plechelmus Basilica is one of 23 basilicas in the Netherlands. The itinerant missionary Plechelmus is said to have founded the church in the 8th century, around the year 1150 it was replaced by a building made of Bentheim sandstone.
