Ameland is sometimes called the'Wadden diamond\\\' and that is not without reason. The nature here is beautiful and in some places still completely untouched. Take a trip through the sand dunes of Ameland and enjoy the island life.
Looking inside a lighthouse
Get on your bike in Nes and cycle from there in the direction of Hollum. Along the way you cycle along radiant white beaches, forests and moors. Enjoy the endless view over the Wadden Sea and get a breath of fresh air. That will make you feel so wonderfully healthy. On the west coast of Ameland you cycle past the lighthouse Bornrif. This 55-meter high lighthouse was built in 1880. Since 2005, the tower is no longer used by the Coast Guard and therefore the lighthouse is now open to the public. Flour mill De Phenix
In 1629 there was already a mill on the site of Korenmolen De Phenix in Nes. The Phenix was built here in 1880 as a replacement for the previous mill that burned out after a lightning strike. Today the mill is regularly used by volunteer millers to grind rye and wheat. The local baker makes delicious rye bread, a real Ameland delicacy.
