TOP Nature cycle route De Strabrechtse Heide

In the northeast of Heeze you will find De Strabrechtse Heide, the most extensive contiguous heathland area in Brabant, interspersed with an abundance of fens, forests and drifting sand areas. Although it initially seems as if you are only looking at a vast plain of shrubs and heather, on closer inspection this turns out to be far from the truth.

Nature lovers enjoy a varied landscape with beautiful views here. You pass the Beuven, the largest fen in the Netherlands. Special plants such as the water spoon and the carnivorous sundew grow here. The fens are teeming with dragonflies and if you look closely you will see the moor frog or perhaps even a natterjack toad.

Tip: At the adjacent Natuurpoort De Plaetse there is a sheepfold, where a herd of 350 Kempen heath sheep has its home. At Heidecafe de Strabrechtse Heide you can enjoy a drink or lunch. Also discover the heath garden, the insect hotel and the beehives.
