Description

Soon after boarding, you will probably want to get off to take a good look at the first sight: Fort Jutphaas. This defense was built around 1820 and was part of the New Dutch Waterline. You cycle along the quays of successively the Lek Canal and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal to the pleasant city center of Utrecht. You stumble, so to speak, over the many beautiful old buildings. In the outlying area you pass Fort Rijnauwen from the New Dutch Waterline. The fort was built at the end of the nineteenth century, and today it serves as a nature reserve. In Driebergen you can take a look at the country house Sparrendaal, after which you can enjoy a real farmer's ice cream at IJsboerderij Vrederust. You drive back to Nieuwegein via picturesque Werkhoven and Houten.
