Description

The Lisser Poelpolder is one of the oldest reclaimed lands in the Netherlands; Around 1624 the last drops of water were drained from the polder and the island of Rooversbroek became mainland.

Initially the job was done by two mills. Later their task was taken over by the octagonal upper porter, which stands at the lowest point of the polder. The first farms were built in the 17th century. For centuries, the polder consisted of grassland, where cows and sheep were grazed. In the 20th century, a small part was replanted in bulb soil.

The Rooversbroekpolder on the edge of the Haarlemmermeer is a versatile horticultural area, where summer flowers, perennials and bedding plants are grown. Roses and potted plants grow in the greenhouses. To the west of the Rooverbroekpolder, bordered by the Rooversbroekdijk, bulb plots give extra color to the landscape.

Characteristics:
- the walking paths are partly paved/partly unpaved
- beautiful views
- you walk among the cows
