Treetop trail
In Gieten-Borger Forestry, you'll cycle through a nearly 3,000-hectare nature reserve consisting of a mix of deciduous and coniferous forests, heathland, and fens. Here you'll find the famous Treetop Trail. This educational walk through the treetops offers stunning views of the wooded surroundings. Schoonloo Forestry is also a great spot for cyclists seeking peace and quiet. The deeper you delve into the heart of the sea of trees, the quieter it becomes.
Historic Gasselte
Along your route, you'll see several beautiful old Saxon farmhouses. Gasselte is a village with a long history. The striking white Church of Our Lady partly dates back to the mid-thirteenth century, but has been renovated several times over the years. Along the Hunze River near Gasselternijveen, you'll pass De Juffer, a grain mill originally dating from 1841.
