Into the Drenthe nature

With its unprecedented tranquility and varied landscape, Drenthe lends itself to beautiful cycling trips. This route takes you through the Gieten-Borger Forestry and through beautiful towns such as Gieten and Gasselte.

Treetop path
In Boswachterij Gieten-Borger you drive through an almost 3000 hectare nature reserve that consists of a mix of deciduous and coniferous forests, heathland and peat bogs. You will find the famous Boomkroonpad here. During this educational walk through the treetops you will have beautiful views of the wooded area. Cyclists who like peace and quiet are also in the right place in Boswachterij Schoonloo. The deeper you penetrate into the heart of the sea of trees, the quieter it becomes.

Historic Gasselte
On your route you will see some beautiful old Saxon farms. Gasselte is a village with a long history. Part of the striking white Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk dates back to the mid-thirteenth century, but has been renovated several times over the years. On the Hunze near Gasselternijveen you will pass De Juffer, a flour mill that originally dates from 1841.
