Walking through the center of Ootmarsum

The starting point of this walking tour is in the center of Ootmarsum. From here you can take a trip to the outskirts of the city and then walk back into the center of Ootmarsum. Around 770, one of the first churches in Twente was built in this city. Partly because of this, the place grew into one of the largest parishes in Twente around the year 1000. In the Middle Ages, Ootmarsum grew further through trade and around 1300 it became a fortified town with canals and earthen walls. The rise of industry in the 20th century did not reach Ootmarsum. It remained a simple arable town and this caused the growth of Ootmarsum to stop. What is left of it now is a bustling town with a historic city center.

In the center of Ootmarsum you will find the Education Museum Educatorium Ootmarsum. Here, among other things, a classroom from 1662 has been recreated, so that you can see with your own eyes what going to school was like at that time. You can even take an old-fashioned lesson here with a strict teacher. Furthermore, changing exhibitions are held here about, for example, further education.
