Tour of Kampina from Helvoirt

This route takes you straight to Zwijnsbergen Castle. You cycle straight through the pleasant Vught to Boxtel where you see Stapelen Castle. The oldest mention dates from 1293. You can stop at De Koekenbakker during your tour. Then you pedal onto the Kampina. The name is derived from the Roman word campina, wasteland. In August you can see a beautiful color mosaic in shades of purple through the blooming heather. You will come across many fens, such as the Belversven, one of the most species-rich fens in the Netherlands. From its north-south location you can immediately see that it was created in a different way than most fens here, which run southwest-northeast due to wind erosion after the last ice age. It is probably an old river bend of the Maas, which ran much further south a long time ago.
