Bergen op Zoom, Moerstraten and Wouw

Almost five hundred old monuments adorn the center of Bergen op Zoom. For that reason, the center is a protected cityscape and there is always something to see in this beautiful city. Beautiful churches, a beautiful harbor area and numerous cozy terraces where you can enjoy a refreshing drink in the sun after a bike ride. You park your car in the parking lot at the edge of the stand and cycle to the first sight: Fort Roovere. Fort Roovere is an earthen fort that was part of the West Brabant water line. The fort is surrounded by beautiful trees and a dry moat. In 1747, the defenses were besieged by the French, until the fortress of Bergen op Zoom fell and could be taken. The fort was refurbished in mid-2010. Most of the vegetation has been removed and the old canals have been deepened. This made the fort a lot more recognizable and gave it a better appearance. When you continue the bike ride, you will see windmill De Arend in Wouw. This belt mill was built in 1811 as a flour mill. In 1825 the mill burned down, but it was restored in the same year. By mid-2010, De Arend had fallen into disrepair on various points. That is why the repair of the mill started at the end of 2012. In March 2013, the mill was pumped again for the first time and the mill can therefore be visited, usually on Mondays or Tuesdays. A telephone appointment is recommended.
