Description
Starting point is De Johanneshoeve, bed and breakfast, meeting location and also Rest Point. Feel free to drop by for a cup of coffee, tea, soda, soup or delicious currants. (resting point is self-service and is located in the reception).
The route starts on the Dalweg, you walk through the land consolidation landscape. You see wide farmlands, but the history is rich. The Dalweg is in fact the first land consolidation road in the history of the Netherlands.
Via the sand path you reach the bridge and cross the Geesterens stream canal. The entrance to the Engbertsdijksvenen. Marvel at the vastness of this unique high moor. Between points 51 and 54 you can even stand on top of the high moors and look out over the water. This water was once land and was formerly reclaimed to extract peat.
There is a bird hide between points 56 and 50, which is indicated with a sign. Enjoy the peace and quiet.
The route continues along the Geesterens stream canal and via the bridge you walk out of the Engbertsdijksvenen in the direction of De Johanneshoeve.
