Renswoude is a small town in the Gelderse Vallei. In the middle of a real Dutch landscape, you can enjoy the village atmosphere here. Castle Renswoude is the jewel of this town. Put on your hiking boots and go exploring in this area.
Castle Renswoude
The starting point of this route is at the very edge of Renswoude. From here you walk through the town in the direction of Kasteel Renswoude. The first house built on the estate probably dates from the 14th century. The name of this house was Borchwal. In 1654 this fortified house was demolished and replaced by a country house. The current house was probably built on the old medieval foundations. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful garden laid out in the English landscape style. You will find lush vegetation and all kinds of vistas. The rest of the route takes you through the center of Renswoude and the outskirts of the town.
Restaurant De Dennen
The start and end point of this route is Restaurant De Dennen. Here you can enjoy delicious dishes. Go for lunch, dinner or a cup of coffee with something tasty while you rest from your hiking trip. Take a break and enjoy the beautiful view of nature.
The Grebbe Line
Near Renswoude you will find old remains of the Grebbe Line. This line was intended as a pre-defense of the Hollandse Waterlinie, a Dutch defense line. In 1745, the construction of this line was started. At Renswoude you can still find the Groeperkade that was intended to turn the water that came through the locks in the Slaperdijk. You will also find Fort Daatselaar from 1799, the best-preserved defense of the Grebbelinie.
