Voorschoten originated on an old beach wall. The history of this town goes back to no less than 2000 BC. Soil research has shown that Voorschoten functioned at that time as a settlement for a group of fishermen and hunters. This history is reflected in the many national monuments in Voorschoten. Here you will find an old silver factory, Duivenvoorde castle from 1226 and the Saint Laurentius Church that was built between 1865 and 1868.
