Tour of Bargerveen and the German border area

Coevorden is a beautiful old town, with Coevorden Castle as the radiant center. A place with history, because the first castle was already here around 1025. Would you also like to see how more than half of the Netherlands was added there three thousand years ago? Then drive past the Bargerveen where you will see a remnant of what was once a gigantic swamp area. It is a unique piece of old raised bog, where you will find special plants and animals. In the center of Schoonebeek you can still see a pumpjack from the time when oil was extracted here (from 1943 to 1996). Here you will also see the white-plastered Huis Middendorp, which actually consists of four houses. There is a gas factory next to it from 1867.
