Walk Somerense Heide

Anyone hiking near Someren often chooses the Strabrechtse Heide. However, there are also lovely alternatives, such as a walk through the Somerense Heide. Until 1920, this was a vast heathland that extended all the way to Weert. The heath was cleared for agriculture, and conifers were planted on what remained in a rectangular pattern. Since the turn of the century, the area has changed from a straightforward coniferous forest to a mixed forest. Part of the former heathland has also been restored, with several artificial fens created. The largest of these is called the Keelven. It's a beautiful and wonderfully peaceful walk along the water here. You can also relax and enjoy the fresh air in the rest of the forest. The route ends at Boscafe De Soete Inval.
