From Rhenen along the Rhine

The starting point of the route is on the edge of Rhenen, close to the Cunera church. The church owes its existence to the fact that Rhenen was an important place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. The river once had free reign here and there were no dikes. Around the old city center, the gentle slopes descend abruptly to the floodplains. The bed of the river used to run here. A little further on you cycle past the Grebbesluis in the heart of the Grebbelinie. You also cross the Nederrijn by ferry, but first you cycle through the shore reserve De Blauwe Kamer. You continue your journey along the secondary channels of the Nederrijn and then take the ferry back to Rhenen.
