Description

The starting point of the route is on the edge of Rhenen, close to the Cunerakerk. The church owes its existence to the fact that Rhenen was an important place of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. The river used to have free rein here and there were no dikes. Around the old city centre, the rolling hills descend abruptly to the floodplains. This is where the riverbed used to run. A little further on, you cycle past the Grebbe lock in the heart of the Grebbelinie. You also cross the Nederrijn by ferry, but first you cycle through the De Blauwe Kamer riverbank reserve. You continue your journey along the side channels of the Nederrijn and then take the ferry back to Rhenen.
